Q.1 ‘Mr Herriot, the veterinary surgeon, is tactful as well as full of commonsense.’ Justify this statement by giving instances from the story ‘A Triumph of Surgery’.
मि० हैरियट ‘पशुशल्य चिकित्सक व्यवहार कुशल होने के साथ ही व्यावहारिक ज्ञान से पूर्ण भी है।’ कहानी ‘A Triumph of Surgery’ से दृष्टान्त उद्धृत करते हुए इस कथन का औचित्य बताइए।
Ans. Introduction: Mr Herriot is a veterinary surgeon. He has a lot of tact and commonsense.
Tactful: He understands that Tricki’s only ailment is being over-pampered by his rich mistress. He also knows that Tricki has to be kept away from Mrs Pumphrey if Tricki is to become healthy again. So very tactfully Mr Herriot gets him out of Mr Pumphrey’s care to keep him away from her over-pampering.
Man of Commonsense: Using his commonsense he is able to get the little dog recovered and transforms him into a lithe, hare-muscled animal.
Conclusion: When Mrs Pumphrey rang Dr Herriot, he told her that Tricki was recovering rapidly.
भूमिका – मि० हैरियट एक पशु चिकित्सक है। उसमें बहुत व्यवहार- कौशल और व्यावहारिक ज्ञान है।
व्यवहार कुशल- वह समझता है कि ट्रिकी की एक मात्र बीमारी उसकी धनी मालकिन द्वारा अधिक लाड़-प्यार से उसको बिगाड़ना है । वह यह भी जानता है कि यदि ट्रिकी को पुनः स्वस्थ बनाना है तो उसे श्रीमती पम्फ्री से दूर रखना होगा। अतः बहुत व्यवहार कुशल से मि० हैरियट श्रीमती पम्फ्री के अत्यधिक लाड़-प्यार से उसे अलग कर देता है।
सामान्य ज्ञान वाला व्यक्ति-अपने व्यावहारिक ज्ञान का प्रयोग करके छोटे कुत्ते का स्वास्थ्य लाभ करता है और खरगोश की तरह ताकतवर फुर्तीला बनाने में सफल रहता है।
उपसंहार – जब श्रीमती पम्फ्री ने डाक्टर हैरियट को फोन किया तो उसने बतलाया कि ट्रिकी बड़ी तेजी से स्वास्थ्य लाभ कर रहा है।

Ans. Mrs. Pumphery was the mistress of tricki . she was much attached to her dog tricki she gave full attention to her tricki .her Whole staff cared of tricki lived a luxurious life . yet he felt lazy . The doctor warned Mrs. Pumphery to give him less food and more exercise . bot her love prevented her from doing so. She thought that he was suffering from malnutrition . she started to give him some malt, cod –liver oil and horlicks .
She thought that tricki would die without her. In absence of tricki , she became very weak . she sent extra eggs , wine etc so that he might be treated well.
श्रीमती पम्फ्री ट्रिकी की स्वामिनी थी। वह अपने कुत्ते ट्रिकी से बहुत जुड़ी हुई थी। उसने अपनी ट्रिकी पर पूरा ध्यान दिया। उसका पूरा स्टाफ ट्रिकी की देखभाल करता था और एक शानदार जीवन व्यतीत करता था। फिर भी वह आलसी महसूस करता था। डॉक्टर ने मिसेज पम्फरी को चेतावनी दी कि उसे कम खाना और व्यायाम अधिक देना चाहिए। लेकिन उसके प्यार ने उसे ऐसा करने से नहीं रोका। उसने सोचा कि वह कुपोषण से पीड़ित है। वह उसे कुछ माल्ट, कॉड-लिवर ऑयल और हॉर्लिक्स देने लगी।
उसने सोचा कि ट्रिकी उसके बिना मर जाएगा। ट्रिकी के अभाव में वह बहुत कमजोर हो गई थी। उसने अतिरिक्त अंडे, शराब आदि भेजे ताकि उसके साथ अच्छा व्यवहार किया जा सके

Ans. Narrator was a veterinary surgeon .he had a fine common sense and tactful treatment . tricki was a dog Mrs. Pumphery was the mistress of tricki .tricki felt laziness because of extra fat. But his mistress Mrs. Pumphery thought that he was suffering from malnutrition . so she started to give extra meals with some malt ,cod –liver oil and a bowl of horlicks .one day tricki’s condition became serious and he refused to take his favourite dishes . he felt vomiting then Mrs. Pumphery had to call the doctor.
कथावाचक एक पशु चिकित्सा सर्जन था। उसके पास एक अच्छा सामान्य ज्ञान और व्यवहारकुशल उपचार था। ट्रिकी एक कुत्ता था श्रीमती पम्फ्री ट्रिकी की मालकिन थी। अतिरिक्त चर्बी के कारण ट्रिकी को आलस्य महसूस होता था। लेकिन उसकी मालकिन श्रीमती पम्फ्री ने सोचा कि वह कुपोषण से पीड़ित है। इसलिए उसने कुछ माल्ट, कॉड-लिवर ऑयल और एक कटोरी हॉर्लिक्स के साथ अतिरिक्त भोजन देना शुरू कर दिया। एक दिन ट्रिकी की हालत गंभीर हो गई और उसने अपने पसंदीदा व्यंजन लेने से इनकार कर दिया। उसे उल्टी होने लगी तो मिसेज पम्फरी को डॉक्टर को बुलाना पड़ा।

Ans. Of course ,tricki was happy to go home . when he saw his mistress , Mrs pumphery after a fortnight he took off the narrator’s arms in a tremendous leap and sailed into Mrs . pumphery’s lap she had to defend herself as he swarmed over her ,licking her face and barking He was missing her very much . now, he was healthy and must be thinking about his rich diet and other luxuries,he received at home. I thing Mrs . pumphery will realize her folly of pampering . she will not give too much to eat to tricki she will also give him sufficient exercises and tricki ma not fall in again.
बेशक, ट्रिकी घर जाकर खुश थी। जब उसने अपनी मालकिन श्रीमती पम्फरी को देखा तो एक पखवाड़े के बाद उसने कथावाचक की बाहों को एक जबरदस्त छलांग में उतार दिया और श्रीमती पम्फरी में चला गया। पम्फेरी की गोद में उसे अपना बचाव करना था क्योंकि वह उसके ऊपर आ गया था, उसके चेहरे को चाट रहा था और भौंक रहा था। वह उसे बहुत याद कर रहा था। अब, वह स्वस्थ था और अपने समृद्ध आहार और घर पर मिलने वाली अन्य विलासिता के बारे में सोच रहा होगा। मुझे श्रीमती की बात है। पम्फरी को लाड़-प्यार की अपनी मूर्खता का एहसास होगा। वह ट्रिकी को खाने के लिए बहुत अधिक नहीं देगी, वह उसे पर्याप्त व्यायाम भी देगी और ट्रिकी मा फिर से नहीं गिरेगी।

Ans . I think this is a mixture of both a real –life episode and a fiction . The overfeeding of dog and giving so much attention seem real. but providing different beds and bowls for different occasions to a dog seem a fiction . Again sending dozens of eggs ,wine and brandy for a dog also seem a fiction. in fact the part of the narrator seems real while the part of Mrs . Pumphrey seems mere a fiction. so it can be said that it is a mixture of both
मुझे लगता है कि यह एक वास्तविक जीवन प्रकरण और एक कल्पना दोनों का मिश्रण है। कुत्ते को अधिक दूध पिलाना और इतना ध्यान देना वास्तविक लगता है। लेकिन एक कुत्ते को अलग-अलग अवसरों के लिए अलग-अलग बिस्तर और कटोरे उपलब्ध कराना एक कल्पना लगती है। फिर एक कुत्ते के लिए दर्जनों अंडे, शराब और ब्रांडी भेजना भी एक कल्पना लगती है। वास्तव में कथावाचक का हिस्सा वास्तविक लगता है जबकि श्रीमती का हिस्सा। पम्फ्रे एक कल्पना मात्र लगती है। अतः यह कहा जा सकता है कि यह दोनों का मिश्रण है।

Ans. Tricki had become very fat because he was very greedy . he did not know to refuse to anything.

Ans. He takes the dog Tricki to his clinic. There he does not give much food to it. He cuts its food and keeps it on a strict diet. He keeps it under observation. At the end of the second day Tricki starts showing some interest in the surroundings. On the third day it whimpers.
