The central idea
The central idea of the poem ‘A Tiger in the Zoo’ written by Leslie Norris is that the tiger has its real pleasure when he is in the forest. His vivid stripes, velvet paws and his anger increase his beauty. It lurks and slides through the long grass to his prey, the deer, near water hole. The nearby villagers are terrified. But now he has been kept in a cage in the zoo. So he only hears the voices of cars and looks at the brilliant stars.

Ans. The tiger in the zoo is caged. He cannot roam freely. He feels sad, helpless and unhappy. On the other hand, the tiger in its natural habitat that is in forest roams freely, can hunt his prey. He can cross the boundary of forest and scare villagers who live near the forest.
