The central idea
The central idea of the poem ‘Fire and Ice’ is that there are two ideas about the end of the world. Some people think that the world will end by the fire while some people think that the world will end by ice. The fire stands for desire and ice stands for hatred. The poet supports the idea that the world will end in fire. But he also accepts that ice means hatred is also sufficient to end the world if it has to end a second time.
‘फायर एंड आइस’ कविता का केंद्रीय विचार यह है कि दुनिया के अंत के बारे में दो विचार हैं। कुछ लोग सोचते हैं कि दुनिया आग से खत्म हो जाएगी जबकि कुछ लोग सोचते हैं कि दुनिया बर्फ से खत्म हो जाएगी। आग का अर्थ इच्छा है और बर्फ का अर्थ घृणा है। कवि इस विचार का समर्थन करता है कि दुनिया आग में ख़त्म हो जायेगी। लेकिन उसे यह भी स्वीकार है कि अगर दुनिया को दूसरी बार खत्म करना है तो बर्फ यानी नफरत भी दुनिया को खत्म करने के लिए काफी है।

Ans. The poet equates fire with desire. He says that he has tasted desire and he knows that man’s desire for supremacy can ultimately lead to the destruction of this planet. He also means that to fulfil his many desires man exploits natural resources and this will ultimately result in the destruction of this planet.
