Q. 1. How did Valli arrange money for her bus ride? What sacrifices did she do for it?
वल्ली ने अपनी बस की सवारी के लिए पैसों की व्यवस्था कैसे की? इसके लिए उसने क्या कुर्बानियां दीं?
Ans. Valli had wish for bus ride. But as she watched the passengers getting on and off, her wish became a overwhelming desire. She heard a rich man saying that bus fare was thirty paise for one trip. It was almost nothing. But Valli had scarcely seen so much money. But she had decided to save sixty paise for up and down trip, For it, she made many sacrifices like not buying peppermints, toys, balloons etc. Particularly that day at the village fair, she controlled herself and did not spend any money. She gave all her money to the conductor as fare. The conductor offered her to have cold drink. She said that she had no money. She was not greedy so she refused to take cold drink in free.
वल्ली की बस की सवारी की इच्छा थी। लेकिन जैसे-जैसे वह यात्रियों को चढ़ते-उतरते देखती थी, उसकी इच्छा एक भारी इच्छा बन जाती थी। उसने एक अमीर आदमी को कहते सुना कि बस का किराया एक चक्कर का तीस पैसे है। यह लगभग कुछ भी नहीं था। लेकिन वल्ली ने शायद ही इतने पैसे देखे हों। लेकिन उसने ऊपर और नीचे की यात्रा के लिए साठ पैसे बचाने का फैसला किया था, इसके लिए उसने पुदीना, खिलौने, गुब्बारे आदि न खरीदने जैसे कई त्याग किए। विशेष रूप से उस दिन गाँव के मेले में, उसने खुद को नियंत्रित किया और एक भी पैसा खर्च नहीं किया। उसने अपना सारा पैसा किराए के रूप में परिचालक को दे दिया। कंडक्टर ने उसे कोल्ड ड्रिंक पिलाने का ऑफर दिया। उसने कहा कि उसके पास पैसे नहीं हैं। वह लालची नहीं थी इसलिए उसने फ्री में कोल्ड ड्रिंक लेने से मना कर दिया।

Ans. Valliammai was a young girl of eight years. She was called ‘Valli’ for short. She was very curious about things. Her favourite pastime was standing in the door-way of her house and watching what was happening in the street outside. It gave her many new unusual experiences. The bus that travelled between her village and the nearest town, was most fascinating. She would wish for bus journey. By seeing the bus daily, it became her overwhelming desire. She would listen carefully to the conversations between her neighbours and the people who regularly used the bus. Thus she picked up many details.

Ans. Valli’s walked quickly to an empty seat and sat down. But when she started to look outside, she found her view cut off by a canvas blind. It covered the lower part of her window. So she stood up on the seat and peered over the blind.

Ans. Valli said to the bus conductor that she had to go to the town and she herself would pay the fare. The conductor called her as a ‘madam’ because he did not think that an eight year old child girl would pay her own fare.
वल्ली ने बस कंडक्टर से कहा कि उसे शहर जाना है और वह खुद किराया देगी। कंडक्टर ने उसे ‘मैडम’ कहकर बुलाया क्योंकि उसने नहीं सोचा था कि आठ साल की बच्ची अपना किराया खुद देगी।
