Ans.‘The Tiger King’ is a appropriate title for the story for several reasons. All the facts and details of the story are interwoven with the tiger king. It means a king of tigers. It is the nick name of the Maharaja of the Pratibandapurm state. The story covers the period from the birth to the death of the Tiger King. The king is crazy about tiger hunting. All the human relations and the affairs of the state are secondary for him. He marries a princess whose father’s kingdom has tigers in sufficient numbers. The Tiger King brings a wooden tiger for his son on his third birthday. One of the silvers of the wooden tiger pieces the Tiger King’s hand. It causes his death. Thus the story revolves around the king the hundred tigers thet he kills. So there could not be any better title than ‘The Tiger King’.

Ans. The astrologers predicted the Maharaja’s death caused by a tiger. It was when the Maharaja was a infant of ten days. At the age of twenty, state came in his hands. Slowly that prediction came to the Maharaja’s ears. The Maharaja started out on the tiger hunt. He wanted to defend himself and disprove the prediction. There were enough tigers in his state, Pratibandapuram. The Maharaja went to the forest to hunt tiger. He killed a tiger. He was thrilled beyond measure when he killed his first tiger. He sent it for the state astrologer and showed the tiger’s carcass. The Maharaja wanted to know the response of the astrologer. The astrologer asserted that he (the Maharaja) might kill ninety-nine tigers in exactly the same manner but he must be very careful with the hundredth tiger. The Maharaja asked the astrologer what would happen if he (the Maharaja) killed the hundredth tiger. The astorloger answered that he would tear up all his books on astrology and set fire to them. He added that he would cut-off his tuft, crop his hair short. He would leave this profession and become an insurance agent.
ज्योतिषियों ने महाराजा की बाघ के कारण मृत्यु की भविष्यवाणी की थी। यह तब की बात है जब महाराजा दस दिन के शिशु थे। बीस वर्ष की आयु में राज्य उनके हाथ में आ गया। धीरे-धीरे वह भविष्यवाणी महाराजा के कानों में पड़ी। महाराजा बाघ के शिकार के लिए निकल पड़े। वह अपना बचाव करना चाहता था और भविष्यवाणी का खंडन करना चाहता था। उनके राज्य प्रतिबंदपुरम में पर्याप्त बाघ थे। महाराजा बाघ का शिकार करने के लिए जंगल में गए। उसने एक बाघ को मार डाला। जब उसने अपने पहले बाघ को मारा तो वह हद से ज्यादा रोमांचित हो गया। उसने इसे राज ज्योतिषी के पास भेजा और बाघ का शव दिखाया। महाराजा ज्योतिषी की प्रतिक्रिया जानना चाहते थे। ज्योतिषी ने जोर देकर कहा कि वह (महाराजा) निन्यानवे बाघों को ठीक उसी तरह मार सकते हैं लेकिन उन्हें सौवें बाघ से बहुत सावधान रहना चाहिए। महाराजा ने ज्योतिषी से पूछा कि यदि वह (महाराजा) सौवें व्याघ्र को मार दे तो क्या होगा। ज्योतिषी ने उत्तर दिया कि वह ज्योतिष पर अपनी सभी पुस्तकों को फाड़ देगा और उनमें आग लगा देगा। उन्होंने कहा कि वह अपने गुच्छे को काट देंगे, अपने बाल छोटे कर लेंगे। वह इस पेशे को छोड़कर बीमा एजेंट बन जाएगा।

शिशु राजकुमार के बारे में ज्योतिषियों ने क्या भविष्यवाणी की थी ? ऐसा कौन सा चमत्कार था जिसने उन्हें चकित कर दिया? मुख्य ज्योतिषी ने राजकुमार को क्या और कैसे बताया?
Ans. When the prince was born, the astrologers predicted that one day the Tiger King would definitely have to die. When they were asked the reason, they told that the child born under this star will one day have to meet its death. At that very moment a great miracle took place. An astonishing phrase emerged from the lips of ten-day-old Jilani Jung Jung Bahadur, “O wise prophets !” Everyone was left stunned. He said that all those who are born will have to die one day. He did not need their prediction to know that. However there would be some sense in it if they could tell him the manner of his death. It was a miracle that only ten-day-old infant opened his lips. He raised intelligent questions. This miracle baffled the astrologers. Then the chief astrologer fixed his eyes upon the infant prince. He explained that the prince was born in the hour of Taurus. The bull and the tiger are considered as the enemies. Therefore, the tiger would be the cause of death of the prince.
जब राजकुमार का जन्म हुआ, तो ज्योतिषियों ने भविष्यवाणी की कि एक दिन बाघ राजा को निश्चित रूप से मरना होगा। जब उनसे इसका कारण पूछा गया तो उन्होंने बताया कि इस तारे के नीचे जन्म लेने वाले बच्चे को एक दिन अपनी मृत्यु का सामना करना पड़ेगा। उसी क्षण एक बड़ा चमत्कार हुआ। दस दिन के जिलानी जंग जंग बहादुर के होठों से एक विस्मयकारी मुहावरा निकला, “ओ ज्ञानी पैगम्बरों!” सभी सन्न रह गए। उन्होंने कहा कि जो पैदा हुए हैं उन्हें एक दिन मरना ही होगा। उसे यह जानने के लिए उनकी भविष्यवाणी की आवश्यकता नहीं थी। हालाँकि इसमें कुछ समझदारी होगी अगर वे उन्हें उनकी मृत्यु का तरीका बता सकें। यह चमत्कार ही था कि केवल दस दिन के शिशु ने अपने होंठ खोले। उन्होंने बुद्धिमान प्रश्न उठाए। इस चमत्कार ने ज्योतिषियों को चकित कर दिया। तब मुख्य ज्योतिषी की दृष्टि बालक राजकुमार पर पड़ी। उन्होंने बताया कि राजकुमार का जन्म वृष राशि में हुआ है। बैल और बाघ को शत्रु माना जाता है। अतः राजकुमार की मृत्यु का कारण बाघ होगा।
